I am fascinated by the role of the snow cover processes such as precipitation, blowing snow and snow metamorphism on the mass balance of the polar regions. The measurements I plan to collect will be very useful for the development and validation of state-of-the-art snow models and to simulate the mass balance of the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets.

Affiliation : I am working as a PostDoctoral Fellow with Jan Lenaerts in the Ice Sheets and Climate group of the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, University of Colorado Boulder, USA.

Role in the Campaign : I am planning to collect measurements of snow distribution patterns and snow properties while travelling from the station to the coast and near the ice rises. The measurements are done in collaboration with Michael Lehning from the CRYOS laboratory of EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland and the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF, Davos, Switzerland. The CRYOS laboratory operates a measurement site near Princess Elisabeth, where unique year-round measurements of the snow surface and blowing snow are performed.

Experience in polar regions : 2 Antarctic expeditions

Fun fact. Likes winter more than summer
